Taking advantage of the remains left by the human groups once their stay at Lagar Velho was over, the carnivores took over the rockshelter for the final feast!
Red fox (Vulpes vulpes), Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus), panther (Panthera sp.) and grey wolf (Canis lupus) are the felids and canids documented so far at the site. A variety of skeletal parts belonging to these beasts has been recorded here, particularly skulls, jaws and canine teeth.
Even though carnivores and humans were mutually exclusive at the rockshelter, both took advantage of the conditions provided by this location. In fact, there are alternating levels of human occupation and levels showing evidence of these species' presence. It is only natural, however, that humans took advantage of these predators to fulfil their daily needs, such as using their skins for clothing.
