The Lapedo Valley, where the Lagar Velho rockshelter is situated, resembles a deep scar carved into the landscape. With its vertical walls and countless rockshelters used by humans and animals over the ages, this valley still preserves much of its ecological essence. Native vegetation, especially riparian species, can still be seen on its banks.
The site is located in the final stretch of the valley, on an elongated north-facing platform overlooking the Caranguejeira stream, under the largest rockshelter discovered up to now in the Lapedo Valley.
